This run had been organised for a while now and I'm really glad I went. The boat lift is a proper piece of Victorian engineering :D . The first meeting place was just over the Manchester Ship canal near Lymm in Cheshire. When I got there Tom was already there as well as Horobags. Tom had apparently set off at 4.00am to get there in time from Kendal (he rides slow). Quickly on my heels were Pete from Warrington and Fish also from Warrington, finally Cubman turns up. As we were having a natter before we set off Dogsbody arrives on his immaculate CT110?, very nice. Dogsbody is not joining us today he was off to a classic bike show/meet Congleton way I think he said?
Good grief Horobags, what sort of position is that, ooh Betty

We were meeting up with some of the autocycle club members in Lymm so we mounted up and made our way to the Barn Owl pub some two miles away. It's great seeing other small bikes and the people who ride them They are as passionate about their mounts as we are of ours :P .
Here are some of the Autocycle bikes.

We had a group photo and Tom grabs one of the autocycle young ( at least 65yrs young ;) ) ladies and slips his arm around her for the photo...perv  . After a brew we fired up the engines and wafted along the country in a haze of two stroke smoke. Cubman was in his element. We trundled, slowly, on our merry way towards High Legh on the B5159 to meet the A50. A quick dogleg saw us down the shady lanes at a leisurely 28mph. We travel throught the picture post card villages of Great Budworth and Comberbach. We skirt Budworth Mere and Marbury country park and are all to soon pulling onto the Boat lift car park.
It had only been a short journey of 12 miles or so, but no one had come off or broken down
Bikes lined up at the Boat lift, generating a fair bit of interest

The gears on top were apparently made by Citroen? I think Tom made that up actually.

We had a brew at the visitor centre and a good walk around and had a natter to Ted one of the old guys that worked there. The boatlift was reinstated in 2002 and it actually costs nothing to take your narrow boat from the lower level River Weaver to the Bridgwater canal approximately 60ft higher. In a nutshell how the lift works is :- There are two sides which can each carry two narrow boats. When one side is up the other Is down. So basically it's two boats up and two down at the same time. As one lift descends it helps the other lift to rise and vise versa. We did get accosted by a nice young lady as we were waiting for the lift to go up and down. She walked up to us as bold as brass and starts nattering to us. How forward I thought :o . It then clicked :? it was Fish's missus   . She was really nice, I'm just so glad I kept my mouth shut....for once   . I felt really embarrassed inwardly (sorry fish ;) ). It was time for home. The autocycle bunch had left us an hour or so earlier, well, who wouldn't  . Back through the country lanes to pick up the A49 to Warrington, we peeled off and went through Appleton Thorne and down to the M6 junction. Here we said our goodbyes and went our separate ways. All in all a great day out. The lift is worth visiting, you've got the canal the river, boat lift, visitor centre, good for at least a couple hours and importantly it's all free :D .
