Hi Newt. Oil cooler hoses:

Going back a few years we had a cheap Chinese alloy billet type oil cooler with small diameter braided hoses with banjo fittings. This oil cooler was fitted to a bike we were racing at RAF Benson. Part way through the race I noticed the oil cooler was.......cool. Removing the cooler pipe we discovered it was no longer possible to blow through the braided hose that ran to the oil cooler. I can only assume that the lining of the Chinese hose collapsed; blocking it. Ever since that time I have used large bore (6-8mm) hoses with push type connections. My chosen hose is Goodyear fuel hose and I have had no trouble since. The hose should only ever "blow" off if there is a blockage because the oil cooler only runs at crankcase pressure as the oil return just vents into the centre of the cam. I suppose a poorly made or fitted gasket under the oil cooler take off plate could cause a similar problem. Here is a pic of the style of cooler and pipe I use now. All the best. Nut
