I thought I'd share this with you.
When I first met hub (30+ years ago) I had my old, but bought new, C50 named Billericay. At that time though it was off the road as I had a small baby to lug about and the back of a Cub didn't seem to be appropriate at the time. But as soon as he started school I was free again and Billericay was put back on the road. At first Hub wasn't happy with that, like a lot of people he saw bikes as dangerous and wasn't happy with me riding it. But he couldn't stop me and soon came to realise what an asset the little bike was. (He'd phone me up from the other side of London to bring some thing down to him that he'd forgotten.) And he also realised how much I loved that bike and called it "my Rollsroyce" and accepted it as part of the family.
Fifteen years later and he wanted to treat me to a new bike so along came Zeppy, a brand new red leccy start Cub. Saddly Zeppy was stolen eight years later and various bikes after that, some good, some bad, I now have Ruby, (paid for by a win on the horses that Hub had, the jockey being Ruby Walsh.) But as it was a surprise event and purchase I now had two bikes, Ruby and Nutty (Nutty has his own story) but only one could be on the road. So Nutty went downstairs into the basement on sorn and now belonged to Hub. Hub sold him to an Irish guy who, two years on, still hasn't collected him. Fuel emptied, covered in grease and under a tarp, that's where he hibernates, we're just custodians for the bike.
Then Hub decided he wanted to get Nutty going. I told him that there was no reason why it shouldn't start and that all it would need was a new battery, he wouldn't believe me. So anyway I bought a battery, put some petrol in and with Hub standing watching me from the top of the stairs, turned the ignition on and gave it a kick. The look on Hubs face was a picture when that bike started, first kick!
Since then, every two days or so, he's been out starting it himself, he's like a kid with a new toy. That was until yesterday when he came in and sadly told me it wouldn't start. Silly s*d, it was only out of petrol. I'd only put a little bit in it thinking that I would be draining it again soon.
Well the grease on the bike had collected a lot of detritus in the two years it had been sat down there so off went Hub with a bucket of soapy water and a sponge and cleaned it all off. Of course he had to start it again.
So now what I have is a Hub who comes in with a big grin on his face every time after starting that little bike up himself.
The beginnings of Cub Lurv I think. :)
