oil cooler going on today

It arrived yesterday as did a very scruffy set of legshields. The best place for the cooler seems to be mounted on the side of my home made spine rack. I want to be able to unbolt the cooler from the rack and post it through a hole in the legshields with the hoses untouched when removing said legshields. The legshields to be cut up were very scruffy with holes and cracks and deep scrapes on the front. (they cost a fiver) I have completely removed the actual legshield parts with a jigsaw and sanding block. (easy job) I think it looks good. Question.. How do people who have already been down this road monitor their oil level. Is it worth measuring the volume of the cooler and hoses and adding this to the engine oil volume. Regards. Bob.
