Barkers problem with his CM 200 got me thinking about the problems I have had with the CD200 and trying to cure the 'missfire' I've had since I bought it. I just thought I would let you all know how I cured it after hours and hours of hand wringing frustration and a good deal of money. It has always started first kick or push of the starter and merrily idled away really sweet sounding, oh and it never cuts out or breaks down?? <_< >_> B^&&%$d thing :blue: .
After replacing the complete ignition gubbins, plugs, points, condensor, coil, leads, caps, set ignition timing etc, all to no avail whatsoever, I turned my attention to the carb. Stripped it again for about the tenth time cleaned it, blew it out with compessed air, carb cleaner and the like. No better. I then repaced the carb with a new/old one off Ebay. the carbed looked in better nick and was a lot cleaner inside than mine. The main jet size was the same 105 (standard size) so I fitted the complete carb on. That's sorted it then? NO. Exactly the same symptoms, missfiring, holding back, crap fuel consumtion etc etc. So I put the bike away for a couple of months with thoughts of selling/burning it. I was proper p*&&^d off. It was horrible to ride. On a light throttle opening, slowing down it sounded like it was fitted with a rev limiter that kept kicking in vrooom, da.da.da.da.da.da.da.da.da >:( >:( :( .
Ok make or break time. A trip down to Sir Klipps was planned, about 110mls one way. I'm gonna take the CD and if it breaks down I'll leave it where it is, seriously. Any road up it gets me there and back in a rainstorm of monsoon proportions, no problem. Still not running right but no break downs and with longish journey I got a real feel for what the bike was doing and behaving. I was convinced it was a carb issue?? I decided to drop the needle onto the last setting, lowering it making it weaker. What a revelation it was 80% better 8) . So I thought AHA the needle is worn, a problem I had on a Cub a couple of years back. I'll get a new one :) . Obviously made from unobtanium. I had to get it from The Netherlands CMSL. It cost a fortune £54.00 delivered o.O :( .
It arrived, fitted. Worse, that's it, get the the spare fuel and the matches.
I refrained and calmed down and thought about the problem. I put the old needle back in and spent some more money on a range of smaller jets..102.5, 100, 97.5, 95. These arrived a couple of days later I stripped the carb again fitted the 97.5 main jet. Problem cured, the bike is now a delight to ride, makes loads more power and torque the top speed has increased by at least 10mph and the fuel consumption is 89mpg. Sorted thank &*&% for that.
Finally, why would a standard carb with standard jets on a standard engine need smaller jets to get it to run properley. To me it makes no sense. I looked at the jets I was buying with regard to sizes etc. The bike is 198 cc basically a couple of cub engines, the 12v Cub runs an 85 main jet, a CG125 runs an 88main jet. So why would a 200 (2 x 100cc, single carb) need a 105 main jet as standard and why should mine need the smaller jet to make it run right? I've spoken to the previous owner and he never had any running issues?
Any way It's sorted now. I suppose the moral of the story is to never give up, hard to do but I suppose you get there in the end. Sorry to bore eveyone, but I'm glad to get that off my chest ;D
