Had two townmates and a cub .. Both good in different ways , townmate 100% better cos it's shaft drive .... Until you want to drop out the swing arm then it's a dead loss , spindle bolt that has blind hole into which it screws is a nightmare .. Head will shear off before bolt will undo due to rust/ on threads , in answer to your question you can start up a t80 on a totally dead battery and it will start , only trouble starts when battery is that gone its become "open circuit"( no longer capable of passage of electric current) then indicators etc won't function , the cub was always better for getting bits off fleabay as there were more about but that meant any bits always went for silly money !! I've got two t80s off the road and am try ing to sell them on , as now the frames are us and a replacement is £450 !! :(:( but unlike cubs they never got the cult ownership status so don't command the same delirious following !! I have a Haynes manual as well if any takers want to take all the t 80 stuff off my hands !if I could have both a c90 and a t80 new and had to choose it would be the t80 every time.! Sorry but I had nightmares with carb icing back in the day on my c 90 but never had a problem with the yam!!
