Hi Griz. That sounds like a solution to a problem that I have just come across. The suspension bolt thickens out just after the thread and the rack is reluctant to go past that, plus it (the rack) seems to be wider between the fixings. Putting it on the outside of the suspension would also fix that problem.
The lower fixing bolts came with the rack plus the extension bit for mounting the indicators which I won't be using as my indicators are now on my topbox.
PS. I did loosen the bottom nuts and the unit just slipped off easily.
