I wouldn't worry about having bought a lemon just yet as it is early days, so long as frame/forks aren't bent and the frame isn't very badly corroded just about anything else wrong can be fixed cheaply. When I bought my '87 C90 it didn't idle well and wouldn't go above 40mph. I changed spark plug, cap, HT lead,and coil and cleaned the carb so often you could eat your dinner off it to no effect but after riding it for a few hundred miles it sorted itself out, it just hadn't been ridden much for several years
