Kebob, thanks for your very kind offer, but I've just replaced the absent spring with one from a biro, and the little plunger is now springing happily up, as intended.

It looks like I need to adjust it somehow though, as the throttle mechanism doesn't quite reach far enough to plunge it.

Did you ever replace an air filter on yours? If so, what did you use? 5 quid on ebay seems a bit rich for a little sheet of foam.

The air box on my 2cv is full of old washing-up sponges soaked in oil.
