I may be low life filthy lying scum actually, it's a 2003 not 2007. It is quite a pleasant ride and I like the torque of the engine though I am not sure about the carburetion - on 2/3 steady throttle it doesn't seem to run quite smoothly though this could be because the exhaust header is blowing badly. Anyway it goes well enough and I am not going to look for a problem until I have repaired the exhaust and run the bike for a few hundred miles. It doesn't rev freely at high revs but a lot of that may be down to the fact the bike hasn't been run for a year and a half (less than 100 miles).
I am glad you are experienced on the bike Nige as it is not so easy to find parts and information on this bike, I just spent 30 minutes deciding which spark plug to use, got it down to a choice of 2 but tomorrow I might change my mind.
From what I have been reading Moto Roma was a brand name used by Zongshen for building bikes. I will do some research on the Loncin and Haotian as well, thanks for the pointer. At least I have the user manual with a wiring diagram.
